Welcome to the Flotilla 39-2, District 9WR Web Site

Six of our Members

WHO WE ARE:

The Des Plaines, IL. Flotilla 39-2, 9th West Region of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was chartered in June of 1959.

WHAT WE DO:

*Boating Safety Instruction: We teach a number of boating and safety courses during the year, usually in spring and fall.

*Vessel Safety Examinations: Trained inspectors will go over your boat to make sure you have all required safety equipment, and issue the Coast Guard Vessel Safety sticker. This can mean lower insurance rates and less hassle if your are boarded by law enforcement personnel.

*Public Outreach: Our members work at public events, such as boat shows, National Safe Boating Week events, and the Chicago Maritime Festival, distributing materials on boating safety and encouraging people to be safe near the water.

*Operational Patrols: Some of our members go out on patrols, such as during the Navy Pier fireworks and the Air and Water show, to keep the boating public safe during these events. We also stand watches at the Webb Marina station and run patrols on the Chain of Lakes.

*Monthly meetings: We have a meeting, usually on the third Wednesday of the month, where member training takes place.

*Supporting the Coast Guard: During the summer, we participate in monthly picnics for the Coast Guard personnel that fly out of Waukegan airport. We also assist at the Wilmette Coast Guard station.
